  2.                  ZipQuik Version 7.06   Released 3-26-89

  5.    This small utility has been developed to provide an easy means to convert
  6. any and all existing files to the ".ZIP" format. It will convert files in the
  7. current directory of a specified harddisk, or all of the files on a specified
  8. harddisk in all of the directorys. You can also choose the type of compression,
  9. as well as the Archiver program to use to un-pack existing files.
  10.  
  11.    The author of this package is NOT affiliated with any particular company,
  12. but has been written ONLY to perform the conversion on his board. It was so
  13. useful that I have decided to make it available to all sysops FREE. If you
  14. like this product, you are encouraged to send a check for the amount of $10.00
  15. to the Author as described at the end of this document. The donation is *NOT*
  16. required, but is requested only because the author has spent many, many hours
  17. to write and test ZipQuik. With the donation, you will obtain FULL access on
  18. The Silicon Zone. Spartan Software has several other products that are
  19. available now, and there are many more planned. Whether or not you make the
  20. donation is up to you, you ARE encouraged to at least call The Silicon Zone
  21. at the number listed below and leave a comment that you did like it.

  23.    The *FIRST* time you run ZipQuik, it will AUTOMATICALLY search your computer
  24. for the required archiver programs. The paths, program names, as well as many
  25. other features of ZipQuik are all accessed via menus and configuration screens.
  26. After any changes are made to the configuration screen, Zipquik will create a
  27. configuration file called ZipQuik.Cfg in the current directory.
  28.  
  29. **>  It is suggested that you locate ZipQuik in the same subdirectory or area 
  30. as all of your other archiving programs to prevent the program from searching
  31. for a lengthy time.
  32.  
  33.    CAUTION!!  I would recommend that you make a backup of your existing system
  34. just to prevent any loss of data. This program will work your harddisk quite
  35. a lot, and hence may cause lack of data due to sheer "hard use" of the hard
  36. disk. Besides... Better safe than sorry!

  38.    This program REQUIRES approximately 1 megabyte free on the harddisk that
  39. it is executed on. If there is not enough room, problems *MAY* arrise in
  40. the conversion procedure. If you have archives that are larger and 300k, you
  41. may require as much as 2 megabytes of free hard disk space.

  43. HELPFUL HINT:  If you already have your files in the ".Arc" or ".Zip" format
  44.                and for some reason you do not wish to completely convert
  45.                your files to another format, you can use ZipQuik to change
  46.                compressions, or simply Re-Archive your programs to ensure
  47.                that all of your files are good.

  55.                         QUIET MODE
  56.  
  57.    Quite mode is not currently configurable, since ALL output is controlled to
  58. allow the display to be the most informative as to the actual functions being
  59. performed.

  61.                         DELETE OLD ARCHIVES
  62.  
  63.    When you set this parameter to "Yes", ZipQuik will remove any of the files
  64. that have been converted. ZipQuik will *NOT* remove files that it could NOT
  65. convert. This allows you to see why ZipQuik did not convert them, and possibly
  66. manual convert them if necessary.

  68.                         PRESERVE DATE
  69.  
  70.    This parameter allows you to indicate that you would like ZipQuik to set
  71. the target file date to that of the most recent file contained in the archive.
  72.  
  73.                         SAME DATE
  74.  
  75.    This parameters allows you to indicate that you would like the target files
  76. to have the same date as the source files.

  78.                         PERFORM CONVERISON
  79.  
  80.    If you set this parameter to "No", Zipquik will NOT convert any files, I
  81. current use this to test ZipQuik to be sure the parameters are set correctly.

  83.                         CONVERT FROM

  85.    The Convert From parameter allows you to choose which archive format your
  86. files will be converted from. only the files with the proper format (and file
  87. name) will be converted. If "Ascii" is selected, the parameters "Ascii Single
  88. File Type" and "Ascii Single File Name" *MUST* also be supplied.

  90.                         CONVERT TO
  91.  
  92.    The Convert To parameter allows you to choose which archive format your
  93. files will be converted to. PkZip, PkARc, PkPak, Pak, and Zoo are all
  94. supported.

  96.                         ARCHIVE COMMENT STR
  97.  
  98.    The Archive Comment String is *NOT* supported in this version of ZipQuik,
  99. ZipQuik7 will once again support this option.

  101.                         ZIP»    ALL FILES RATIO
  102.  
  103.    This parameter allows you to set the compression method/ratio for *ALL*
  104. files that are going to be converted. If you set this one to 'None', then
  105. the individual files ratio will be used. If you have Pk-Zip version 0.92 or
  106. newer, you may also use the 'Auto' Setting to have Pk-Zip automatically choose
  107. which method will be best to use during the compression.

  109.                         ZIP» BINARY FILES RATIO
  110.  
  111.    This paramter allows you to set the compression method/ratio that will be
  112. used when PkZip is converting Binary files.
  113.  
  114.                         ZIP»  ASCII FILES RATIO
  115.  
  116.    This paramter allows you to set the compression method/ratio that will be
  117. used when PkZip is converting Ascii files.

  119.                         ASCII SINGLE FILE TYPE
  120.  
  121.    This paramter allows you to tell ZipQuik that you wish to convert a SINGLE
  122. file. The filename should be store in the "Ascii Single File Name" parameter.

  124.                         ASCII SINGLE FILE NAME
  125.  
  126.    This parameter is used when you are converting FROM ASCII files. This should
  127. contain the wildcard file name of the files you wish to convert. If you are
  128. converting ONLY a single file, you would place the file name here as well. You
  129. should *NOT* place a path in this parameter, since zipquik takes the path based
  130. on which menu option you choose.

  132.                         DRIVE TO WORK ON
  133.  
  134.    This is the actual drive you wish ZipQuik to use while doing the conversion.
  135. ZipQuik will create it's temporary directory on that drive if you are going
  136. to convert PCBoard directory files. If, however, you are going to convert a
  137. sub-directory or an entire harddrive, zipquik will *ONLY* convert the files
  138. that reside on the drive specified here.

  140.                         ERROR LOG FILE
  141.  
  142.    This item allows you to set the NAME of the error log file that ZipQuik
  143. should store information about what files it could not convert.

  153.    The Remainder of the configuration parameters describe the file path and
  154. name of the various commands that will be used to convert your files. The path
  155. *MUST* be specified or ZipQuik will NOT funtion properly. Note that the first
  156. time that ZipQuik is executed, it will search your computer to determin the
  157. locations of the files.
